'99 Outback Brake and Battery Light

My mother-in-law said the brake and battery both came on while driving under
normal conditions. She also said the steering was stiff and car felt some
jerking. Anyone have any idea whats up.

Sounds like your alternator belt might need adjustment as it turns the power
steering pump as well. Not sure why/how that relates to the brake light
coming on.

This same symptom occurred in my 1999 Legacy L sedan about 6 weeks
ago. The alternator was going bad. The light would come on
occasionally (only) when the headlights were on.
