98 subaru outback 2.5l tapping sound

I have good gas mileage low oil consuption. But I hear a tapping sound from
the engine. The car accelerates fine no funny smells from vehicle or smoke
from exhaust. What is the tap tap tap sound I hear. Should I ignore it?

possibly piston slap, possibly timing belt tensioner.
