2020 Crosstrek gas tank corrosion

Has anyone else had this problem: my dealer says the computer to my 2020 Crosstrek hybrid is throwing a code indicating a fuel line corrosion problem. They say the plastic gas tank is corroded, and the whole system has to be replaced, at about $3k. I have used only 87 Octane gas. Shouldn't a gas tank be built to hold gas commonly sold in the US? Car is 3 years old/54K miles.
