2.5 turbo to 2.0 turbo engine swap

Grandson blew the 2005 Legacy 2.5 turbo engine and is putting a 2.0 turbo back. Does he need 2.0 ECU or can he swap everything off 2.5 to the 2.0.
ANY INFO APPRECIATED ,TIA.
