I've got a 2003 Baja that has developed a head gasket leak. I'm looking into swapping the entire engine out rather than fuss about with a head gasket replacement. However, I'm a bit leery of where to look and what is actually safely swappable for my Baja. I've seen a lot of Legacy and Impreza engines for sale, but most of them have seemed to be 2.0L rather than 2.5L (through JDM, of various locations). Will that matter? In fact, one of the engines I'm looking at in particular is a 2000-2003 Impreza RS EJ201 engine. Would that be a viable fit for my Baja? I know Bajas are EJ251, but beyond that this is new territory to me.
Are there any other trustworthy sites/companies anyone could recommend? I'm trying to do as much research and be as thorough as I can.
Also, my 03 Baja is an automatic, naturally aspirated.
