the case of the missing fuel filter?

Matt

My neighbor has a 2004 Outback 2.5L and it appears to be missing the
fuel filter. Instead it has two "disc-like thingers". Now, the manual
shows that this is what a "California" edition has, but the rest of the
parts under the hood do not match this "california" edition... So the
question remains, Where is the fuel filter? Are those disc-thingers the
fuel filters?

Some of the new Suub's do not have an external filter. Do not know which
ones exactly, but if it's missing, its in the tank.

Making it a pain to replace! Thanks for the info though.

On vehicles with the in-tank filter the maintenance interval is much
longer so you don't have to deal with it as frequently as the external
type. It's 60K IIRC.

It's probably also about $120 US plus parts.
