I just experienced this yesterday and wonder if it is something that will get worse. Ignition was locked, even though there was no strain on the steering wheel. I had to move wheel up and down, and then quite forcibly tug on it to get the ignition to release .Car was parked straight in so no strain on the wheel. Happened again later in the day, but not as severe anyone else experiencing this.?

And don't get me going on ignitions wearing out...although that is another crazy frackin' Volvo thing that costs the earth to fix, as you have to grind the mounts off to replace it. Who doesn't like metal shards all over your car forever...

Yes, similar but with turned wheels. My Forester used to lock up sometimes if I parked with the wheels turned at an angle. I had to hold the steering wheel very snug in the direction that the wheels were turned.... just hold it tight, while trying the key. ( Its POSSIBLE that I have this backwards, and I had to hold the steering wheel tight the opposite way the wheels were turned. ). Also I was instructed to help prevent this by parking with my wheels straight, but mostly it was stressed that I turn ignition key more slowly when I turn off the ignition so that it settles in the correct micro- space. So, try not to be in a hurry when you engage, or disengage, your igntion. Hope this helps. I stopped having the problem once I practiced the above.
