Its time to buy snow tires. How will the Outback tpms react to a new set of rims? Or should I have the snow tires put onto the existing rims?

It is my understanding that the TPMS sensors are part of the air fill valve. If you don't put the tires on the original wheels the TPMS warning light will stay on. If you change your wheels and buy new sensors you will have to calibrate them to the car's computer. This will cost money! Talk to the tire shop that you are purchasing the new tires from,
