Noise in rear end of 2022 Ascent cant identify

I have a 2022 Subaru ascent LE the other night I went and opened the tailgate, and the car was not running and heard what sounded like a motor running in the rear of the vehicle. I checked under the rear tires and it sounded like there was a small motor running by the tires, but I cannot identify what it is. The car was not running and had not been on for at least an hour so not sure why any type of a motor would’ve been running just by me opening the tailgate anybody have any ideas of what that might be?
