MP3 CDs in 2006 Legacy

R

RR

The owner's manual says that the CD player can play mp3s. (page 5-42). I
tried a number of different recording modes for mp3 files and none are
recognized. It does recognize conventionally recorded CD's. If anyone has
succeeded can you please post your method in a reply please? This seems like
vapourware to me. Or maybe the thing is defective in my care.

I don't have a 2006 Legacy :( but in general:

- make sure you record "finalized" CD (no further recording possible)
- don't put there anything except the .MP3 files (your recording
software may be doing you unwanted favors and putting something
else there as well).
- don't use long (or internationalized) names -- try burning a CD with
just a handful of tracks: song1.mp3, song2.mp3, etc. (where by
"song1" I *literally* mean "song1") in the top-level directory.

You may also try using some other CD-burning software from the one
you've been using.

Cheers,

Hmm, if the 06 is anything like the 05 Legacy, I don't think it can play MP3
format, only the Outback has that option. They have a different head unit.
Don't ask me why. I wish I had the MP3 on mine too.

Does your manual say that you can use MP3s? If it does, did you consider
that it is a warranty issue?

Yes my manual says I can use mp3's but it is also a manual used for the
outback so that is what they are referring to. Trust me, the head units are
different. Go to www.legacygt.com if you want a second opinion.

I my new 2006 Forester plays my MP3 burned cd's right off... no
problems. My burner is practically brand new. How old is your CD
burner? In computer terms, legacy computer equipment e.g. just 2-3
years old such as CD R burners may not be compatible. CD R- works
better than CD RW for some reason as well.

Thanks. Subaru's head office told me that only the Type C player, which is
only in the Outback-R VDC, the most expensive version only, can read MP3's.
That, and the cheapest players at Wal-mart. The manual does not give that
impression. But no matter what you spend on a Legacy, you get type A or B.
The MP3 note is off by itself at the end of the audio section, not with the
Type C information. Put that on next year's Legacy wish list with a 5 or 6
speed automatic (ask Mazda) and stability control.
