lowering job question: no need to compress the springs during reassembly?

Fed up with the bob and weave action from the suspension
I've finally got to install STI takeoff springs on my OB Sport.
I compressed the old pliable junk and took it off. However
when I installed the spring off STI (it's about 1.5" shorter
uncompressed
than the spring that come with the OB Sport) I did not need to
use the spring compressor. I just tied the bolt at the top
with an offset wrench. Is it normal not needing a spring
compressor during strut assembly or did I mess up somewhere?
This is in the rear. Did not get to the front suspension yet.
Thank you!

Is this a common swap? I'd expect sedan springs to cause 'tail sag' on
a wagon - maybe that's why you didn't need the compressor - the springs
are too short.

I dunno. Probably not. Is tail sag the same thing as acceleration
squat
or that's different?

You think that could cause any problems?

No, just a poor stance with the rear looking lower than the front.
You might ask someone over in the suspension forum at www.nasioc.com .
