knock sensor on 2001 legacy 2.5L?

Rocky

the check engine light came on last friday night in my wifes 2001 legacy.
I picked up a knock sensor from autozone - they said it had code P0328.

I noticed my wife had the tank below E, so I filled it with 13.8 gallons US.

I will be installing the sensor on saturday and was wondering - does the
check engine light reset itself and just store the codes or do I have to
reset it myself? Autozone said chilton does not make a shop manual for 2001
yet.

I forgot to say the milage is 55,000 - isn't that early for this problem or
did the low fuel level trigger the sensor and maybe now the code needs to be
cleared to get the light to stay off?

what model of tool do I need - is it ODB II?

The light will go off on its own once the problem that caused the code
to set is corrected. The code does remain in memory but if the ECU no
longer detects the condition over a few driving cycles it will turn
the light off.
The code can also be cleared and the light turned off with a scanner.
You could have asked Autozone to do this for you, perhaps since you
bought the sensor from them they'll do it if you go back after you
install it.
