Impreza 2000 Alarm - Active vs Passive

I have a 2000 Impreza Sport with an alarm system but it does not activate by
itself, it has to be activated manually. Is there a way to chage to to
active? I read somewhere that I have to take it to the dealer for them to
change something.

Any help on this.
