how to identify FWD and AWD?

hi,

i'm looking at a 1.5L Jap-Import Impreza, how do i know for sure it is a
AWD, not FWD?

which part of the VIN gives away this detail? failing that, how do i
physically check it?

Are you sure, my Auto Forester doesn't have a center diff, only the manuals.

#### thanks. i looked at it, it does have a rear differential. i didn't
check the center one, but Subaru doesn't do 4WD (does it?), so it must
be AWD. and i have paid the deposit

i have also found a link (hard to find though in japanese) which
confirms the AWD system, with translation at
