Hello, I am new here, and my 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness has about 15K miles now. So, I am starting to change all my fluids after break-in. Any thoughts on what to use on the Front Differential? Owners manual states use either 75W-80 Subaru Extra MT fluid, or 75W-90 GL-5 rated gear oil. Subaru Extra MT is impossible to find under 5 gallons, so I am going the aftermarket route. What do you use? I was thinking Amsoil 75W-85/75W-90 gear oil, but wanted to know from experienced Subaru owners before I proceed.

Whatever you use make it a full synthetic oil.
Suburu does not make oil, it just has their label along with a very large price mark up.

That's what I was thinking. I'm probably going to go with Amsoil Severe Gear 75W-85 most likely.

They're on 15k cycles? That seems REALLY short.
Ya, but according to their manual, that's what you do for severe service. Which is about 90%+ of drivers on the road in the US. I won't be doing it every 15K, just doing it to get the OEM fluid out. After this, I'll do the diffs every 50K with good fluid.

Could have been redline shock proof.
I ran a mix of redline and amsoil in my high pinion differentials. The redline is very thick and gooey stuff so the thinking was it would prevent the high pinion parts from being starved of lube. Especially after sitting overnight or for long periods. Seemed to have worked out finentoo. They were going strong when I sold it and they had seen years of off road use as well as highway miles.
I started out with amsoil in everything but I switched as amsoil was hard to get and Mobil one was just as good but much more attainable. So it was mobile one engine oil after that. I grew tied of buying gear lube and engine oil in 5 gallon buckets.

I feel ya. I built a rack in my basement to hold bulk fluid. That way I can just make orders for 5 years worth of fluid/filters. Saves me trips to the store! But I'll definitely take a closer comparison to redline vs Amsoil vs Mobil, etc. I just am nervous with a new Subaru. Everyone has told me to do strictly OEM fluids, but I don't know exactly why that is.

I've used them all in my 54 years of twisting wrenches and favor (today) Mobile 1 on gear lubes. Held up the best under drag racing conditions so it should be great on normal every day use.

Hi you got to change the rear diff too i did change the rear after 4 years seem the fluid will degrade after time my car got only 3.9 k i don't use Amsoil but Subaru only it's the CVT fluid the dealer said for life what a joke fluid degrade after time
like engine oil i change every six month or more. we are going to have trouble to find parts on SUBARU thank to the trump tariff. 40k Subaru's employees will be laid off.

Please take the political garbage to Fbook where it belongs. It has already ruined most of the Internet already. Please leave this mostly lovely place alone.

FBook. That's one place I won't use anymore. Anyone who tries to tell me how to think, say and do, I give them the bottom of my boot, and boot them through the goal posts of life.
