Consumer Reports

The new issue of Consumer Reports arrived in today's mail.

Splashed across the cover are the words, "100 Top Products", and right
below those words is a photo of a Forester. Inside, it rates the
Forester 2.5 XT as the top Small SUV, and the Forester with manual
transmission as the best Small SUV for fuel economy.

Consumer Reports is not the best source for auto ratings after they
did the smeraing of the Isuzu Trooper which was rated by them as
reliable as the Land Cruiser- the gold standard of SUV's. Having
owned a Trooper (and wishing I could have bought another) I am not
always in agreement with CR.

Don't get me wrong. I really enjoy the Subaru's and wouldn't mind
having a Forester to carry the camping/kayak gear and an STi for the
fun weekender, but leave them to rating things they can handle.
Toasters, maybe TV's. I have never found them to have much worthwhile
to say on cars.
