2nd gen Legacy wagon- fun to drive?

I'm between a 2nd gen Legacy/1st gen Impreza wagon, or a Miata for a long-distance road trip, i want it to be manual, fun to drive, and generally well-handling. How fun is the 2nd gen Legacy wagon to drive?
