Engine swap for Forester

I have an 08 Forester with a bad motor but heads are still good. Found a good low mileage donor engine 05 egr Forester. My question is can i put my 08 AVLS heads on the 05 engine, swap over intake, harness, crank sensor and gearand it work? I know the opposite has been done but I'm not sure if this will work.

Inquired with a dealer and he promptly told me "don't do that, it'll cause you lots of problems", and then he tried to sell me a long block for $6k.

Then just obtain a complete rebuilt engine. Jasper or Powertrain Products... forget about trying to salvage a pair of heads...
