About a week ago I noticed my 2016 Forester wouldn't start cleanly. I suspected battery problem because the battery was over 3 years old. I live in Florida and that's a typical battery life. I went to have the battery tested and it was indeed bad. So, I replaced the battery. Then when I tried to start the car, it wouldn't start. I thought I didn't have the battery terminals tightened. I double checked and made sure everything was tight. Then I tried again, it started but then it immediately died. I tried a few more times and sometimes it could be started normally and then sometimes it wouldn't start or died immediately after it got started.
Yesterday I took it to a shop and got the battery, starter, and alternator checked. Everything was working normally. Then I went to the local Subaru dealer. The service manager immediately suspected parasitic draw. So, the mechanic tested the battery, starter, alternator, and parasitic draws. Everything was still normal. But right after I took the car back and drove to a local grocery store just a few miles away, after I came out of the store, the car failed to start. But it started at the second try. Then I had to go to another store because the store didn't have what I wanted. After I came out of the second store, the car got started only after the third try.
I called the service manager again and he told me to send the car back for him to take another look. The car started normally this morning. After I drove it to the dealership, I turned it off. After couple of minutes, when the service manager tried to start it to move it into the shop, it failed to start. It started, then it immediately went dead just like it ran out of gas. This was the first time it happened when the car was in a repair shop.
Has anyone seen this problem?
This 2016 Forester has had some major issues. Just about a month ago I was able to get Subaru America to cover the fix for the ignition key stuck issue. We've also had an AC slow leak issue for about 3 years. Every year I had to refill the AC coolant because it's much cheaper than replacing the AC components. So far, they've not able to find out where the leak is.
