I want to add a dash cam to my 2013 Outback and power it from the map light assembly. How do I drop the map light assembly, which also has the glasses holder, so that I can tap into the 12v in the map light assembly?
To get the overhead console down, you need to pull straight down on the front edge, there's a stiff spring clip holding it up. Pulling from the sides won't work. There's also a 10-pin plug behind the auto dimming mirror that's an easier power source for a dashcam. Why not tap into the mirror connector instead?
Firstly, thanks for your help. To get get teh overhead console down, do I need to unscrew the screws visible when the glasses holder in the console is opened?
Do you know the voltage on the line to the autodimming mirror? I need 5v. I have a device to convert 12v to 5v and I was hoping to conceal that in the overhead console if there was room. I'll open the console to take a look and look at that connector for the mirror.
