Hi, I parked my Impreza in the driveway and came out 30 minutes later and it won't start. The battery is new and tested, starter is brand new. However, the bolt that attaches the ground to the starter snapped, but was able to thread a new connection. The ground behind the battery is fine, as is the ground near the firewall. The 2 grounds on each side of the engine were bad so I replaced those. But car still strains and won't start. Ground wire from negative battery terminal gets hot. Is there still a bad ground somewhere bad enough to not let the engine start? Or could this be something else? No CEL codes. Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions.

All starters are SELF-GROUNDING by Design ..... !
Was you Vehicle built this century , ... or last one ... ????

I'd replace the ground cable. If no difference replace the 12v + cable. A cable getting hot means a voltage drop, which is lost energy for cranking. We often jump conclusions to too much current, but it can easily be a corroded cable with high internal resistance.

The
Who connected the starter wires. It is easy to get them wrong as there is no keying.
"BIG" Wire (Connection) goes on the BIG STUD ; the Smaller one ..... !
If the Cables are NOT in LIKE-NEW-CONDITION .... REPLACE , or do a PROFESSIONAL Repair, not some Kitchen Shake-&-Bake thingeeeeeee..... !!!
