True AWD

More to the point of the OP question, with the 5MT Subaru transmissions,
the front and rear drive axels are actually physically connected all the
time,
through a viscouse coupler. So yes, even with the ignition off, if you
turn one wheel the other three turn aswell.

BEWARE! DO NOT allow ANYone to tow your vehicle without using a wheeled
trolly, or lifting the car completely onto a flatbed with NO wheels
touching the ground! This can and will cause severe damage to the AWD
mechanisms.

Not sure about the STI, but I THINK the 'regular' manual tranny with the
VC center can also be towed with all 4 wheels on the ground with
speed/distance limitations.

In general though - a flatbed tow is prefered, should not be more
expensive but can mean a longer wait fro service occasionally.

A trolly tow is okay too. :)

All modern Land Rovers, i.e., Defenders (since the 90/110 models of the
early 80s), all Discoverys, all Range Rovers (since 1970), and Freelanders.
Oh, the very first model Series I Land Rovers of 1948 were also constant
4WD.

The WRX varies depending on the transmission type. The automatic has a
computer-controlled "variable torque distribution" mechanism which can be
turned into a pure FWD with a little fuse in the fusebox under the hood.

I think you're wrong about the WRX being able to go full FWD. My fusebox
doesn't have that fuse you speak of. According to your theory then I could
dyno my car on a 2WD dyno just by putting in the fuse? Sorry, doesn't work
that way.

Here is more info should you want to look it up:

Just spoke to my godlike Subaru mechanics (who always seem happy to get to
the bottom line of any arguments I have with people, after all I'm a
longtime customer with them) and they said the 2002 Automatic WRX does NOT
have the FWD fuse after all. My mistake. Even with the availability of
those fuses, I doubt dyno'ing it would be a good idea. They were meant to
be set only when you are running on the donut, not as a full-time FWD
mechanism.

Who said anything about autoforumz.com? Or are you referring to the fact
that I got my information from a very well respected subaru website and
think that all online web based forums are hacks that steal all of their
content from usenet? I'd be willing to bet that www.nasioc.com has A) More
people posting daily than does alt.autos.subaru B) has more technical
information than you can find in any of the newsgroups.

Not at all. I was merely interested in pointing out how one particular
website appears to be archiving all my posts in a website medium which
doesn't actually seem to state where it came from and basically is
pretending to be a big noisy forum in an attempt to pump up its own
importance when in reality it's about as important as a big dump.
Unflushed.
