I took the car in for an oil change and when they checked the tires, the tread is bad and alighnment.
Seem to me they should last more than 17K miles .

Are they bad, or did they just tell you that they're bad. Nearly 100% of these places are scammers. Maybe some pics would help? Have you measured them?

What car? What tires?
With a treadwear indicator of 300 with a Pirelli P6, 10 K is all you get
A treadwear indicator of 600 on a Michelin will go 60,000
I did alignments for 35+ years (Ford dealer, master tech)
I buy tires based on 3 things
Treadwear indicator, Temp indicator and Traction indicator
I always buy tires that have a treadwear indicator of 500 or above
If you buy actual snow tires with a snowflake on them, they will have a treadwear indicator of 300 or so and are made to be sticky and wear out quick

If the alignment is off its will wear out tyers (as the British say) in short order. How quickly depends on how the alignment is off toe usually if notn and to what degree.

Original tires on my 2018 forester not good and barely lasted 40000. So now I have continental lx series tires. No tire i have owned has lasted more than about 55 or 60000 in my 56 years of driving. Ang I have paid attention to alignments and proper air pressure. Within 2 pounds. So if the continentals don’t last more than 65000 I give up.

All of my OEM Bridgestones have been total crap in handling, wear, and longevity. All tires are not created equally, and use varies quite a lot also.
