Does anyone have strong feelings about the 20inch wheels vs 18inch wheels on the Ascent? Everything I have read has reported the possibility of problems with the lesser sidewall on the 20 inch tires. Wondering if this has been anyones experience.

What problems would there be with the shortened aspect ratio (sidewall)? Besides trying to change the 20" tire without a tire changer machine, it would be very hard to do manually. As for ride comfort, there maybe some difference, but according to my calibrated extra large rear end, I doubt I'd feel much of a difference. Only advantage I would see with the 18" tires would probably be a slightly less cost of new tire, but not enough to want me to change.

I've manually changed tires and it's not something I ever plan to do ever again (unless it's on my motorcycle or bicycles). I'm to old to put up with that frustration.

Tires are a big part of your suspension, Really short tire sidewalls (required from 18"->20" will likely be more noisy and provide a rougher ride. It isn't a sports car. What would be the benefit, aside from more flats from potholes?

I agree with @bmart about ride quality, I also believe there is more potential for rim damage with the "rubber band" tires and deep potholes with there being less sidewall or cushion so to speak.

Thank you, the positives for the 18" wheels are in keeping with my preferences and my fears about short side walls. I ordered my Ascent with 18" wheels. Thanks again!

If you're looking for more comfort, less chance of flat tires, and a smoother ride, 18-inch wheels are probably a better choice for an SUV like the Ascent.
