Hi All: I'm new to Subaru so if my question looks weird, I understand. I'm strongly thinking of buying a Forester Touring hybrid. If I had to place an order for one from the factory what would be the waiting time before I could take delivery? I want to get some insights before I visit a dealer. Thanks.

You should ask your dealer. They're the only ones who would know.

What moved you from thinking to strongly thinking?

What would make your order a special order? That’s not that much variation so whatever you want is probably already in the pipeline somewhere.

Mine was a couple of months, maybe 3. I went to order a '23 and they said I had to order a '24. I have one of the first 2024s as I took delivery in November of 2023. No hybrid for me or big screen in middle of dash. Glad I got mine when I did. BTW, I've always special ordered. Only way to get 'exactly' what I (we) want on a vehicle. Otherwise you are either compromising, or over paying for features you could care less about. In reality I still got stuck with the eye-sight as it was 'standard'.

And now for the elephant in the room...I believe Foresters are still JDM vehicles. The new tariffs will pose a significant price increase over a vehicle already on the dealer's lot. I don't know where you are located, but in the USA, this will increase prices if the car has to be imported. Have you tried the shopping tools on Subaru of America website? You put in a zip code, model and trim and it will search within 200 miles of that location. You can get more information on a specific vehicle from there. If nothing comes close, change the zip code as required to search other areas. You may be able to locate what you are looking for or at least come close.

Or you can wait a short time until the world plays nice and things are just fine.

I just got a JDM import, so I guess I beat the tariff!

LOL Now what are you going to do with all of that Eyesight and other camera based safety crapola?

I know you have it with a 2025, JDM or not.
BTW, I think the new model has a way to defeat autostop without needing to buy anything extra to dumb it down. I could be wrong but I think someone on here found it.

Ummmmm
What is jdm?
I’m assuming it means Japan manufactured vehicle, but specifically…?

Here's a cut and paste. I think we now use it to desinate Japaneese made cars, and not just Japaneese makes or brands made elsewhere.

For a term with such outsized importance in car culture, "JDM" is an acronym for a fairly boring phrase: Japanese Domestic Market. It refers to items built and intended for sale and use within Japan (i.e., not for export). This includes everything from vehicles like the Autozam AZ-1 and Toyota Century to aftermarket parts made by Japanese tuning companies. Japanese-branded enthusiast cars are often tagged as JDM despite not being strictly "JDM" in terms of their origin or original market. Beyond the actual industry definition of JDM, the term has become one of the overarching labels for Japanese car fandom worldwide, gaining far more meaning in common usage than from its original industry context.

So if I understand this, it strictly refers to a car that was actually made in Japan for Japan? And not in Japan for the United States?
In which case it would, I guess, I have originally had right hand drive and been converted?

My grandfather bought two “gray market“ Mercedes sedans back in the 80s, after discovering that it was cheaper to buy them individually shipped them individually and then have them converted to US standards.

No Subarus after 2009 for me. they went mainstream and got all of the same problems.

Japanese domestic market. After 25 year, one can import or register a JDM car, so mine is a 1999. They have many cars and powerplants we never got here.

Converted? Not sure that's possible. RHD is part of the appeal. Left hand shifting and the driver is not head on into today's idiots who can't seem to stay on their own side. lol

At the dealership in Corinth, Texas, they have an original brat with about 5000 miles on it and when I was in there on Thursday for an oil change, I saw they had a sanbar truck. It had right hand drive but when I asked, they said it wasn’t street legal.

I’m right handed, I wonder how easily I could get used to shifting with my left hand
It's not at all hard. At one time I had a right hand drive Mini that I drove in the left hand drive Phillipines. It was easy to get used to shifting with my left hand. I don't recall any problem at all. However, driving in right hand drive countres, England and Japan, took some getting used too.
