anyone know of a good source for a decent service manual?
Chilton, Motors or Hayes manuals that cover a 2013 impreza.
I don't want a digital manual, I want and actual book that I can use.
Don't want to try and read a manual on a phone or mess with a lap top in the garage.
Books are just so much easier and useful.

The BOOK Ones are mostly Generic ; while the Digital ones are Model and Equipment SPECIFIC ! They consist of several THOUSAND "pages" of Info.

As far as I know , No-One publishes a 7,000 - 10,000 Page "Book" , except for the Federal Government !!!

Paper is nice, but not searchable. Electrons are searchable but less transportable. Good and bad.

always been my experience that the books are well organized and they are searchable, its called an index.

Never had an issue finding something in a 3" thick manual.

I use AllData at my public library where they pay the subscription fee for me
You can print the factory pages out of the manuals at that site
You will find the factory manuals on PDF online ay Ebay for 8.95 and print them yourself
I see NO (factory) paper manuals to buy (for your Subaru) and I'd stay far away from Haynes or Chilton

The information is usually accurate enough, but not always. If I am looking for airflow diagrams for instance on a HVAC system, it says to refer to qualified personnel. I am qualified personnel. I only use ALLData or Mitchell, where they have the exact factory pages out of the factory manuals, no colored wiring diagrams etc.
Note, I am a Ford master tech and usually deal with Ford stuff
They (Chilton and Haynes) have their place under the sun
They are useful to most people
The information is useful for most
* They'll show you a picture of an oil pump and a guy with a feeler gauge checking rotor clearance, It just won't be your car or engine, it'll be some old Chev or Ford photo

Fair enough. I've seen many errors in the aftermarket and the factory manuals from many brands. The details are surely missing in some of the aftermarket manuals. The Subaru ones (Chilton and Haynes) for mine cover parts of multiple generations. Watching how they handle that can be comedic, for sure!

I found Chilton and Haynes to be not worth the purchase price. I had factory manuals for a Toyota truck I had. They were accurate but poorly organized and hard to use. Always had to flip back and forth which is a real PITA when you're trying to do a job.

Chilton & Hayes were GREAT in the 70's - 90's : then they became more useless that a NewsPaper from a Bird-Cage ... !
