Lighter socket dead

My daughter's 2001 Forrester has a dead lighter socket and the seat eaters
have stopped working. Is this a relay or fuse problem? She lives 90 miles
away and doesn't have an owner's manual.

Seat heaters, lighter, side mirror motors, side mirror heaters...all on the
same fuse. 20A, third one from the left on the top row.

Don't ask why I know this without looking it up. :-(

Best bet would be fuse #4 (20amp) in the fuse box under the dash. This
supplies power to both the cigarette lighter socket (Subaru calls it
the "front accessory power supply socket."), and the heated seat/rear
"accessory power socket" relay. The heated seat relay appears to be
stuffed up under the dash on the extreme left side, but a failure
won't cause the _front_ lighter to quit.

Try the fuse. If that doesn't do it, email me direct and I'll send you
the wiring section (in .pdf format) from the manual.

And chase those pesky "seat eaters" out before they do serious damage
to the upholstery ;-)

LOL! Thanks Steve. I'll have her check the fuse.

Thanks John, I'll have her check that.
