Do front cover bras hurt your paint?

Hi All,

Do front cover bras, like this one,

http://www.subarupartsforyou.com/cp_partdetail.php?partid=4869

hurt your paint?

And, can I just hose off all the dead bugs every week? Do I need to take
the cover off or just hose the whole thing on the car?

(Every bug in two counties commits suicide on my front bumper. They are
starting to leave nicks!)

Many thanks,
-T

Many have gotten away from metal retainers and S hooks, so they are better
than they were.

But, if it's not a tight fit, and flaps around, then it will wear the
paint down.

The other thing is, they trap water.

Touch-up paint is cheaper...

Hi,
You can apply clear 3M sheet. Bra is passe!

I heard that the paint tend to come off when you
try to remove them. Can you confirm or deny?

Hi,
Bra has always slight movement causing scratch.
Hard on the paint finish and traps moisture as well underneath.

Yup - they damage paint. If there is any leading edge rust, they
accelerate it too.
Best used to COVER not protect.
Have one on my TransSport (plastic hood) which had a lot od paint
blasted off by 275,000Km of driving before I got it, as well as on my
daughter's Neon - which has a lot of leading edge rust (tipical for
the model) and it was easier to cover ratty patchwork with the "bra"
than to try to paint it to match.

when it rains, dirt can get under the bra, and driving at speed, it
can move and act like sandpaper. What about trying a silicone wax on
the bumper? I heard they are bad for paint, leaching into it, making
it hard to repaint.
