Any ideas on replacing the OEM "door window" squeakers on a 2000OB?

They're Dead, Jim.

I've upgraded everything else (main speakers are some decent Kicker
3-way coax, so do get some mis-aimed highs from there).

My upper-end hearing is pretty battered, so I usually crank up
everything above 5khz so that it sounds like it did back when I did hear
the highs naturally..

and with a 50Wrms/chan head unit, I do push the dBs up a bit at times
(shall we say olde farte at play?).

Has anyone found a replacement for those wimpy door window squeakers
that fits in the shroud?

You could look into MB Quart. They used to have separate woofers/tweeters,
and the tweeters fit into the tweeter mount on my '05 Scion.

The first place I look for car audio stuff is Crutchfield. Even if I don't
wind up buying there I usually get some ideas by looking at what they offer
for a given car. I did a quick run-through for a 2000OB but had to make
some assumptions about your body style and head equipment. They show some
packages which offer 1" dome tweeters which is probably what you'd want in
the high door panel position.

Thanks all, I'll just have to do a little more digging on my own (not a
problem). I was just hoping that someone else may have a fast answer.

Please do not use "decent" and "coax" in a single sentence:
I stopped by a stereoshop a few years back and for the life of me
I could not understand why would people buy that crap in the
aftermarket.
You could CLEARLY hear the difference even outside a dedicated room
setup for demoing speakers and I am in no way an audiophile or
have anything to do with audio processing and music industry
as you could see from lack of posts on hifi groups, etc

Cheap separates are the way to go, just say NO to coaxials

Yup, the AD clown trying to show he's "class".
Go piss up a rope.

I have worked in the audio industry, including some pretty esoteric
stuff. I'm an audiophile, but if you saw one of my hearing-loss
printouts, you'd know I'm not a "golden-ear".

"Cheap separates are the way to go, just say NO to coaxials" ??
I guess you've never heard some *really cheap* separates...
But then again, I do agree with you for speakers *other* than in vehicles.

*decent* Coaxs and "plates" are about the only answer in vehicles,
unless you want to do major interior mods.

Now that you mentioned it I feel so declasse now. Plunging in shame
from an upper lower
middleclasser right into the lower upper underclasser. Should I also
shave my head
for being on the bandwagon of people whining 2.0 turbo won't do for US
spec STi?

You are so clever in your interpretation of my buck-for-buck coax vs
separates match
messages. But I do stand corrected: plates + coax is a lazy ass' dream
come true.

Don't stop at just shaving your head, cut the whole damned thing off.
The rest of us won't miss it.

Not all of us want to live your life. If you have such a dislike of
Subaru and the way some of us choose to set up our sound systems, stay
the **** out of alt.autos.subaru.

Been gonna plonk your "high class ass", just did it. Bye....

One of the best sounding speakers I ever had was a pair of *CRAIG* CoAx.
After spending HOURS listening to all the high end speakers for $59+up
(this was in '85) I wound up buying them...for $19.95 a pair!

All depends on what you want to hear. But I like MB Quart...

(German made...)

MB Quart's always been decent stuff, but you are spot-on about price =|=
quality (or performance).

It's like buying speaker wiring for automotive use.
You can buy Monster Cable or any of the other "hi-bling" crap, but it
won't work any better than 12-2 stranded UF cable (commonly used as
"streetlight cable")

Thanks Steampunk

Is reference line products good enough ?
Is formula line the bottom of the food chain but still sounds good
enough
for uninitiated?

I'm looking at their site but have hard time cutting through the
marketing speak
