2003 forester service

Hi all,
does anyone have an opinion on the 15K service for the forester '03 XS. My
dealer wants to charge $350.00 to change the trani fluid, air filter checks
various stuff. The service manual just states to 'check' the trani fluid.
Why would my dealer want to change the fluid other then the obvious money
making ploy.

Just ask the dealer to do what the factory recommends. Transmission
fluid changes should be done if your a trailer puller often or drive
in the desert at temps ~120 degrees. Some dealers often recommend
things that may be nice but unnecessary to pad the bill.

I agree with Ed.
I too, have a 2003 Forester. I found my dealer pulls the same crap.

I'm coming up on mine too. My dealer has a schedule booklet that adds
change of brake fluid and fuel filter at 15K whereas manual does not have
these items until 30K. Nothing about tranny fluid. Otherwise, I may just
have work done at foreign car specialist I deal with and just use his oil
change and tire rotation special for $29.95. Nissan dealer tried to pull
this stuff on me but he was not smart enough to print up booklets.
