2003 Forester Clunk Noise

Help

I have been to the local dealer 3 times and they are unable to fix this
problem. From what I can see the dealer is trying, but so far no results.

I can't pinpoint the (like a heat shield) position of the sound.
Sometimes it sounds like it is coming from under the car and sometimes under
the dash. I can make it happen every time by running over the reflectors on
the road at 50 miles per hour with my right tires. Speed bumps or ruts in
the road do not cause this sound. The car has been making this noise since
it was new.

My wife and I have been very happy with this car, but this problem is
getting OLD, and the warranty is going to run out soon.

Thanks in advance

Sometime last year I made a post about a similar clunk in a Forester I
test drove. Someone responded that he had the same. Maybe you can find
these in the Google archives...

Our clunk was related to a loose donut tire in the trunk well; the
jack was banging around in there, so we just tightened everything up
and that noise went away. Hope yours is as simple.

There was an electrical connector that was loose under the dash, near the
break peddle. I just use a tie rap to fasten it to some other wires.

The dealer looked at this three times and could not find the problem. It
was easy to figure out once I noticed I could reproduce the sound by
stomping on the break peddle.

Works great now.
