1986 XT Turbo 4WD- ECS Light

I have the above listed car - recently the ECS warning light goes on - does
anyone know what it is or if it's important?

There is no way to tell since there are many things that can set a
trouble code and turn on that light. You need to read out the code(s)
stored in the ECU to troubleshoot it properly.
