i just totalled my 99 gt sedan. im beyond pissed. im wondering what i
should expect to get from insurance. they say they used nada pricing.
my parents had an audi that they got 23000 for but nada only said
like 18000. i went to edmunds.com and typed in the exact specs of the
car and the worth they gave me was to a T of what amica gave them. for
my car on edmunds it says its worth 11300. this is probably what i
should expect to get right? this is amica.

Oy. Sorry about that! I assume you're ok though, which is a plus!

The caveat of course is that Nada blue book has several pricings
though.

Adjusters methods vary a bit by insurance company, so it's hard to
say. If your parents audi ws also Amica insured, it'd be a reasonable
assumption that you'll get something in that ballpark.

First of all, I feel for you. I also have a Legacy GT and I truly enjoy
driving it.

As for the value of your car, I doubt you'll get $11,300.
I'm not an expert on this field, but I've heard that they go with a rate
chart
that closely mirrors auto auctions. Just to give you an idea, two weeks ago
I dropped by my local Subaru dealership and I had my 2000 Legacy GT Sedan
with everything including spoiler assessed for a possible trade-in.
According to the computer system auto auctions for 2000 Legacy GTs were
quoting prices around $11,000.

Check your auto policy and carefully review all the terms, there might
be a way to work a better price than the first price that the insurance
company will quote you.

These things are not always negotiable but there are always factors that can
increase the value of a car--e.g. service record, pictures that might show
that the car was in excelent conditions prior to the accident, lo-jack,
miles, extra options. Insurance appraisers "conveniently" forget to
consider these good things when they are determining the price of a car.

Also, check your state's insurance regulatory agency, they might thave some
useful guidelines for consumers and complaint forms. Use these resources,
after all, you pay for them with your taxes. If you feel that they are not
holding their obligation as stated on your auto insurance contract, then
file a formal complaint against them through the state insurance regulatory
agency. I'm sure this will get their attention.

Hope that helps. Please update us when the insurance adjuster gives you
a quote.

Probably close. Make sure you have checked at the NADA site and used your
zip code and include mileage and options.

I agree with the other posters.
Additionally, if you can prove you recently spent a lot on the car or
have radically upgraded it somehow(sound system, aftermarket sunroof)
you MIGHT get a coupla' hundred more. It's worth arguing it, most of us
will never have a JOB that pays $150 for 10 minutes of talking!

Also, if you have space for it and are inclined, buying the car back and
selling the parts can get you a few xtra bucks. Check the marketplace
forum at www.usmb.com

My insurance company, Farm Bureau, has an optional rider that gives you
brand new REPLACEMENT cost if your vehicle is totaled (the vehicle must
be less than 5 years old) I jumped on that immediately because it was
only $40 for my Forester.

thanks for the replies. yeah i am so utterly pissed off about this
accident. i loved that car. it was such a nice ride, i mean it took me
forever to pick it out. arg. so you think they will try to offer me
trade in value on the car instead of retail value? with my parents
audi they definetly did NOT get trade in, they got retail infact. i
typed in all the options and milegage on edmunds and got a vlaue of
22500 for the car which is EXACTLY what amica gave them, though my dad
got them to 23000. im just trying to figure out how these guys work.
how much i can get and how little i should expect to get. in the blue
book the car is woth about 12-13 thou, but obviously this is inflated
to benefit dealers. trade in from nada for my car is like 9500, and
im just wondering why they would try to give me this when they already
gave my parents retail. from what i understand you cant really haggle
with them either, its pretty much set give or take 500 bucks. amica
is the best insurance in the country though. anymore input highly
appreciated. any recs on a new car i could get with the insurance
money?
thanks
