This software upgrade is still available. The Subaru dealership in Jackson MS updated my TCM with the updated software discussed in the service bulletin 11-101-11. They did this at my request, not their recommendation to fix my problem. There was a 1-hour labor charge plus tax. This did not solve my problem. I got the hard shift and all the warning lights. I ran the codes and got the P1710 code, Torque Converter Turbine 2 Speed Signal Circuit Malfunction. My understanding is Subaru normally would replace the transmission valve body. Not going to do that. Might try the aftermarket speed sensor replacement. Not sure yet. Going to keep driving in the meantime, very cautiously.
