.nz tyre recommendation for an rsk b4

C

cobs

Hi,

got an rsk b4 that's up for a new set of tires. Currently shod with
215/45 Bridgestone Potenza zr17s (re01) on the stock Subaru alloys.

Grip, noise etc from the Potenzas has been great, but I wouldn't mind
something that lasts a little longer, allowing for a little fun now and
then. The set had 6mm all round when imported on the car, and last
warrant saw that down to 1.5mm front, 2mm rear (even wear according to
the sheet) - traveled about 16k during that time, running at 34psi
front, 32 rear.

So, what are you using, and how do you find them?

I've got two options at the moment, either more of the same, or I've
also been pointed at the Dunlop Direzza (by a vr4 owner with similar
driving traits).

Any others? - also interested in what I should steer clear of.

Finally - I've got a space saver spare that I'm not thrilled with the
idea of using, even for a short distance. I'm curious what people do for
a spare when they've got directionals on.

TIA.

Hi
Nice to see some other kiwis using this group.
In the last 2 years I have had two sets of tyres on my GTB.
the first was Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 or similar. Theses where very grippy
tyres stick like sh*t to a blanket. I had allot of fun with them A little
noisy but my main bug bear was the wear. They had all but worn out within a
year 27000kms & 3 out of 4 had cracks in the sidewalls. They got replaced
under optional warranty.

They got replaced by Dunlop SP Sport Maxx these are not as grippy and will
squeal around corners where the Goodyears wouldn't. But the are generally
allot quieter and are wearing ALLOT better. These tires are of a harder
compound than the Goodyears. This is probably the best mix of performance
and longevity.
Hope this helps.

Currently running Goodyear Eagle F1 215/45/ZR17 on a 02 GT Wagon. They
were on it mid-last year when I bought it.

Noise is not excessive but that's what a radio is for.

They do tend to feel every rock but as the previous poster said they
stick like the proverbial.

Can't cmment on the wear.

Hmmm, talked to another Mitsi driver today who has Goodyear Eagles
fitted (not sure of the exact model).
He likes them a lot, but finds them far noisier than his previous set of
Bridgestones on volcanic chip (okay for tar seal).

Cool, will definitely take a look thanks.

cheers
