Hey, everyone -

Figured I'd post a quick thread to document the journey of my 2008 sedan I recently picked up.

Picked the car up for 2500 bucks and was told the following:
- new clutch
- new tires
- new plugs
- new serpentine belt and hoses
- new fluids
- new radiator
- new timing kit
- head gasket was done 20k ago

The vehicle was in ok shape but isn't exactly a looker and was filthy inside.

As of now, here is what has been completed by me:
- full vacuum
- trunk latch fixed
- hood latch removed and cleaned (was sticking)
- removed and cleaned seatbelts
- new passenger visor (was falling)
- new kn air filter
- new cabin filter
- new push clips for body
- removed the mouldings
- full interior wipe down (simple green)
- new shift knob
- new leather shift boot, ebrake boot, and console cover
- LED dome light, map lights, license plate lights, fog lights and headlights
- new tow eye cap (not installed - needs paint)
- new all weather mats
- new snowboard rack with key
- engine degreaser/detail
- new roof rack caps
- new power steering pump o-ring (was whining)
- cleaned pcv valve
- cleaned ege valve
- new plug wires
- steam cleaned seats and carpets

Even though head gaskets were allegedly done (and I can visually see they were) - I'll be doing a quick head test this weekend for peace of mind. Just waiting on the fluid to be delivered.

Will also burp/bleed the coolant system since it's got the new rad and want to make sure that was done right.

Next steps for it:
- new f/r struts (ordered)
- new f/r brakes (ordered)
- new f/r sway bar end links (ordered)
- new power steering pump
- new stretch belt for a/c
- full exterior detail with some paint touch ups
- new wheels (have them picked out but not ordered, yet)

Few parts I "might" get for it:
- new speakers and tweeters
- stock style mud flaps
- do the valve seals

As of now I've only driven the car appx 20 miles total. I've attached a pic of the day I got it - a follow up for how it sits now - engine bay - an interior before - and a current pic of the interior showing the new leather pieces and knob. No updated pics from the steam cleaning but I'll get those as well.

Looking forward to how it turns out and hoping no surprises along the way

Bled the coolant system as of today - lots of air in the system but I believe it's all good, now. I couldn't get it to go above 204 degrees and then the thermostat would open dropping the temps around 190. Had the vehicle on for an hour before shutting it off.

I did a block test which did indicate exhaust gasses in cooling system but I'm not finding any other faults such as overheating or coolant usage - so - unsure if it's a false positive or not. Hoping for all good based on the above coolant temps. Also find no milky substance on oil cap or dipstick.

The stretch belt was delivered so I'll be installing that when I get the new power steering pump so I can just do those things at the same time.

Little by little she's coming together

As of today I'm almost positive theres a head gasket leak...

With the chemical test coming up positive, the air bubbles in the overflow res, not being able to fully bleed the bubbles from the coolant system, and now throwing a p0303 (misfire) and p0420 (catalytic) - looks like that'll be the next thing I get done.

The buddy I picked the car up from is a mechanic and stated no mechanical issues or head gasket issues...I've brought them to his attention and if it's confirmed with a compression test then I'll get the gaskets and have him do the labor either free or at a very steep discount.

Oh well - onward! Would like to save this car...

Well...I have confirmed the head gasket leak so I'll be handling that at some point. Believe I'll run a sealer through it in the meantime to buy some time

Outside of that, completed the following:
- new AC belt installed
- new low/high pressure line o-rings
- ac recharged and blowing cold
- new strut mounts installed
- new ball joints
- new outer tie rod ends
- new f/r sway bar end links
