Although I have always ensured oil changes are done on time (or early), I haven't generally followed the recommended maintenance schedule on my 2008 Forester but have repairs completed as needed. Most often with a local mechanic - the nearest dealership is 3.5 hours away.
Currently, other than a soft squealing noise when backing up (brakes?), at 267,000 miles (166, 000kms) she is running very well.
I plan to have the brakes looked at and get an oil change. As the cold weather approaches here in Northwestern Ontario and with her advanced age, I am feeling called to give her a bit of extra attention. I would love if she could have a thorough going over resulting in a recommendation of any urgent repairs or things to keep an eye on. I don't usually but, I plan to go with the dealership for this one. Hoping it won't cost me an arm and a leg but, I'm not sure what should I be asking for. Would it just be an "overall check" or would it be a certain level of the recommended scheduled maintenance? I just want to ensure she is getting what is needed.
Thanks kindly for any guidance on this inquiry!
