Good morning Subaru fans. I have a 2016 Subaru Forester with 67k miles on it. Recently it started making a chirping sound when the engine is cold and I begin to accelerate onto the street.

It’s coming from the dashboard and it’s a very deliberate sound, not random. It’s three short chirps, a pause, and then two more. The sound never varies and no lights or information come up on the info screen or gauges anywhere. It never happens when the car is warmed up.

Anybody have a idea what this might be? Input very much appreciated!

Sounds as if it could be a slipping fan belt or perhaps a bearing the the alternator or something getting ready to buy the farm.

What he said. Maybe not really from the dashboard?

I have small rattles in the two I let them do the airbag recall in. Truly...no one can do anything right these days.

Is it just a sound or do you feel it in the gas pedal too? My son's 2016 Legacy had a chirping sound upon acceleration but you could feel the car lunge a little and feel it in the gas pedal. $8k CVT replacement. 102K miles.

YIKES! That’s truly scary. It’s just a sound. 3 short chirps or dings, a pause, and then 2 more. No warning lights either. It doesn’t do it every time I take off but most of the time. There doesn’t seem to be any hesitation upon acceleration but I will pay more attention to that. I combed through the manual and there are some warning dings listed but none like this particular pattern.

Try asking your dealer. It's worth a phone call.
