2006 Impreza Engine Knocking

I have an 06 Subie Impreza and not too long the engine started knocking. The car had an oil leak we weren't aware of and I've been told it's one of the connecting rods. I don't know too much about cars, but we've been told to look for a new motor. I have no idea where to start so I thought I'd come on here and ask. If anyone has any suggestions, please don't hesitate!

You can snag a full motor on ebay for 1500-2500 bucks.

Then you'll need the labor to install it. If everything else is in good shape it could be worth it for you otherwise you might be looking at a mechanical total and should just snag a new vehicle.
