My better 3/4 bought an outback 6 months ago from a guy who claims he replaced a laundry list of engine parts just before selling it to her. Drove it sporadically during that time, maybe put 2000 miles on it. Thing died on me while driving it a week or so ago. Would crank but not start. I suspected a broken belt, but after pulling the small cover off the left side, found the tensioner laying on the belt, bolt still in it. The belt looks fine, no chewed up teeth or fraying, and it’s still around the left cam gear. I neglected to see if the marks were still matched tho.
Is there a way to see if the valves got hammered without pulling the heads off? I’d like to have an idea of what she’s up against before I start tearing into individual molecules. At this point it’s borderline not economically repairable even if I do the work on it. Having to do a whole valve job or replace the heads would put it in the parts car sale ads.
Thanks!!
