I have a 2020 Forester with 27,000 miles. After 2 days of heavy rain a few weeks ago, I discovered 2 inches of water pooled in the passenger side. I dried it out and used a garden hose to try and figure out how the water got in, but no luck. We had more rain last night. The rain started around 4 pm and continued on and off until after I went to sleep. I checked the car around 10 pm, after several hours of heavy on and off rain, but saw no evidence of water coming in. This morning however, I found a small amount of water in the passenger side again. As best I can tell, the water seems to be coming in behind the front dash, on the far right side. There is a cable harness running from just under the windshield down to under the carpet on the floor, and it's wet. The seals on the windshield, door, window and moonroof seem ok, and I didn't see water coming in through them when I tested them. I'm 100% certain this has nothing to do with the A/C drain. The leak is correlated with periods of heavy rain. Any suggestions would be most welcome, thanks!

So I scheduled an appointment with the "water leak guy" at the local Subaru dealer and was told that 4 years of accumulated detritus from the oak tree that hangs over my driveway had clogged up the drains in the windshield gutter, which caused the water to back up and flow into the air intake, and then into the car where it found its way to my dash and dripped down onto the carpet on the right side of the glove box. They charged me $306 to clean out the gutter and the drain tubes inside the air intake (underneath the gutter which they had to remove). I'm going to have to wait for the next heavy rain to see if they fixed it.

I might have to have the same thing done for my 2012 cx9.

Tropical Storm Helene is moving through today so I anticipate some heavy rain for the first time since I had my car serviced to stop the water leak. So far, the car is still dry, but the really heavy rains are still to come....

After a near record 12 straight days of rain in September, I can report that my 2020 Subaru Forester remained dry.
