I have seen many posts online regarding torque bind and failed viscous couplings (VC). I have this occurring on a 2014 Outback with the 6MT, started around 70,000 miles (now 80,000). The VC is a non-serviceable part and costs $1000-1500 to replace. The torque bind that results is a potential safety hazard.
This is a major power train design defect that has been occurring for years, and should be the subject of a factory recall. I have initiated a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) complaint, number 11419799.
If you have this issue, know others who have, or think you may have this issue, please report this to NHTSA, and let's get Subaru to fix these defective vehicles.
