WRX Hood Damaged At Construction Site: How Much Does New One Cost?

F

Father Theodore

Greetings:

Talk about a crappy Friday. Construction site next door to where I
work is doing blasting. Well, one blast was bigger than they thought
showering our parking lot with baseball size and larger rocks. Rock
about the size of a softball hit my 02 WRX hood, putting a huge dent
in it and shattering hood scoop as well.

So how much does a new one cost? I'm just curious. Insurance will
take care of it but I still want to know. I think it's made of
aluminum and is quite expensive but would like confirmation.

Hope you day was better!

A new hood, spraying, fitting but no scoop
cost me £945 = approx $1500.
Those are Subaru main dealer prices.
Hood alone approx $750 unsprayed.
These are UK prices and hurt
but at least I had a guarantee of
a good job and some come back if not happy.
I didn't bother phoning round for those reasons
and it wasn't an insurance job.
YMMV.
I had a bottle chucked at mine.

Ouch! Sorry to hear about your bad day...I just has the rear bumper
cover on my WRX repainted after some inconsiderate SOB scraped it up
(several 12" long & 1/4" wide gouges) while parked at work. Ah well, at
least it was just the car damaged.

A new (unpainted) hood for an '02 WRX would be about $450US from a
dealer, not sure what the factory scoop goes for (?$50US?). Guessing
that hood/scoop painting and installation would cost around $600US, so
somewhere around $1100US total.

Thanks for the info. Sorry about the bottle thrown at yours. Sheesh.
Bunch of savages in this world.

Thanks for the info. I will probably find out what's going to happen
on Monday. Should be interesting.

SubaruParts shows the hood to list at $499.99, the scoop to list at $168.23,
and (if they were broken) the splitter parts under the scoop go for $49 and
$31.02. All of that is unpainted. Figure $400 or more for the paint -
actually, probably $800+ as they will want to blend the paint into the two
front quarter panels... so I am guessing a grand total of $1500 or more...
fun fun fun!

What was the damage on getting the rear bumper retouched & repainted? I
trashed mine trying to cram a sofa inside my Outback.

Hi Jay,

It cost me $359US out the door to remove, smooth out gouges, repaint, &
reattach the bumper cover. It wasn't the least expensive quote I got,
but I went on local recommendations & and am very satisfied with the
quality.

Hey, you're with Palomar College? I attended the San Marcos campus back
in the late 80's before eventually heading off to the UofA...currently
in Prescott, AZ.

while you're getting a new scoop, get yourself an STi scoop.

it's a bit bigger, gives a bit more airflow, and looks cooler to boot!
they're probably substantially the same price.

Why haven't you gone and told the constuction company to repair it for you?
Threaten legal action! I sure as hell wouldn't let a company trash my car
and then go fix it at my cost. It's their ignorance that resulted in rocks
raining down on cars.

I'm surprised no one else has asked you this? The first thing I'd do is try
to get money out of the constuction company, if not them, then your
insurance company.

I probably was not too clear in my first post. The construction
company is going to pick up the tab for everyone's car that was
damaged. No need to contact my own insurance. Needless to say, I am
also going to get a rental car -- paid for by them -- for the duration
my WRX is in the shop.

Oh, and I'm going to get the most expensive rental car I can find!
Luckily for them, no one was injured. The rock that hit my car was
about the size of a softball. We had one chunk the size of a
basketball sail over the parking lot and land next to the building.
We dodged a bullet on that one!
