WRX front tyre wear

My 54 plate UK WRX has pretty much eaten the outer & inner edges of the front tyres in 12k. There is 5mm
across 75% of the tyres. The pressure is well above the daft low figures in the manual.

Potenzas BTW, I have swapped them to the rears.

Anyone else had similar problems?

We have 2 at work & they are both doing it?

Subaru WRX (The Bitch)

really should run approx 35psi & rotate tires every 6k.

if you corner hard like me, this will not be sufficient,
try an uprated rear sway bar first, then a frt bar later if
needed.

with my 2002 wrx wagon, went with bfg kdws tires,
35 psi, 24mm rear bar, uprated frt & rear swaybar links.

now tire wear is nearly perfect for my commute, which
includes some hard cornering.

10k on the Potenzas (front)...not good and not too
much hard use....well maybe a bit.
The Potenzas sacrifice life for grip as they are a very soft but grippy
compound....so I'm told.
Replaced with Michelin Pilot Sports which are approaching
20k and nearly shot but no discernible lack of grip under normal WRX driving
compared to the Pots.
I'm happy with 20K and will replace with Pilots.
Personally I prefer to stick to the recommended pressures but filled with
nitrogen nearly 2 years ago and found very little loss of pressure over that
time. I've topped up with air but very infrequently tho pressues checked
every week.

Beware weird wear problems on the rears as they go out of round on the
softer compound tyres and become noisy, particularly under heavy braking.
Had me stumped for a while....a problem not unknown to the tyre shop but new
to me.

Running tires "well above" the recommended pressure? No wonder you've
got problems.

On the contrary, running pressures too high will result in wearing the
centre of the tread, not the edges.
Sounds like he has a bad pressure gauge and is in fact running them soft.

An associate in the tyre business told me the recommended pressures are
worked out between the tyre and car manufacturers, to give reasonable
handling but not to prolong tyre life. Usually they are better run at a
higher pressure than the specs.on the sticker. 90% of new car owners replace
the first set with the same brand, so the tyre companies win!

As usual they have their bottom line in mind.
