Will A New 2005ish 4EAT Transmission Be Able To Fit Into My 1991 FWD Subaru Legacy

As the title says, I was wanting to know if I could use a newer 4EAT transmission to replace my FWD transmission in my 1991 Legacy? If I can use an AWD box would it matter if it’s a fwd, seeing as theres no rear differential to be wrecked?
