Have an '04 Forester 2.5XT. Engine apparently has cracked cylinder. I am not a professional mechanic but have done quite a few projects such as head gaskets, timing belts etc. Car itself is in good shape for its age, many newer replacement parts. Interior is in good shape with no cracks in dash etc.
I have priced used engines. Couple of questions. Is it even worth it to replace the engine myself? How do I know that a used engine will fit my car without too many fitment issues? A Subaru mechanic told me that replacing an engine is way too hard for a DIYer but I have my doubts.
Any suggestions? Should I just part it out or sell it as is?
