VIN number not visible

Safelite replaced my 2018 Forester windshield yesterday. The VIN number viewing window does not show the VIN tag. Safelite says the tag is still there, just not positioned quite right. What is the legality of that?

The replacement windshield is not OEM, but it passed all of the Calibration Tests required of the Eyesight System, and everything appears to be working correctly. It's just that the VIN Number is not visible through the viewing area of the windshield.

There is also a VIN tag on the inside of the driver's side door on the pillar, so I'm okay with that if that's all that is required legally.

I would think it would be illegal for a windshield replacement company to install a windshield that hides the VIN. Call your state patrol office and ask.

I don't know if your are an attorney or not, because you didn't qualify yourself.

But, I don't want to ask state patrol, first, because I'm certain they would say that it is illegal. However, there is typically no retribution against individual troupers for saying something is illegal, so they say that about lots of things that later go to court and are shown to be legal. I'm hoping a traffic attorney could chime in on this.

I really don't want to be forced to sue Safelite to replace this windshield and later lose in court. I'd be responsible for all the court costs.

I get it and understand your concerns. Best of luck in whatever path you chose.
