"Two Flash" security blink; oughty-ought Outback , won't cancel!

(2000 Outback Limited, factory security system)

It could be something that's been going for a long time; I have a number
of advanced "senior moments" lately, as well as that I've been inured to
flashing dash indicators as a result of the stuck "seatbelt warning"
bleep on my wurk van...

Anyway, this morning my s00bie complained loudly this morning with the
"Big Beep" of the security alarm going off while I put my pants on.

I've just had to add some more crap to my keyring, so I assumed that
somehow both buttons on the fob got pressed while enpantsing. (Yes,
Virginia, I've done that before...)

When I got out to the ???????U+'¶¥???? car, the alarm had quit. I went
thru the obligatory "5 key cycles" to clear it anyway. Afterwards, I got
the "2 Flash" of the security status constantly unless started and
running. It's still doing the 2-flash 2-step when I went out to re-read
the owner's manual again.

As stated, this could have been happening before and it just didn't
register until this AM's wake-up call, but I don't think so.

The owner's manual says:
1 flash-- opened door/hatch
3 flashes-- impact sensor
4 flashes-- ignition turned on while in alarm

Supposedly, turning the ignition ON while the door is open will clear
the above.

Nothing on this "2-flash 2-step"...

Any thoughts?

Valet Mode?

there might be some info at www.cars101.com or maybe someone here
knows.

Valet Mode?

You ere correct. The security system was in "valet mode". I had to
re-read the owner's manual. They put that issue in a different section
of the manual.

The cure (getting out of "valet mode") is to open the driver's door
(without the key in the ignition), and hold the unlock button on the
remote down for at least 5 seconds.
