Good Evening Friends,
I am looking for help to find what in the world is happening to my outback. i will include a Diagnostic report i ran on it for everyone to see.
it so happened that I was driving near Hackensack, NJ and my gas tank was as empty as it can be. I stopped at the one and only gas station near me and
filled the tank with gas. right away i felt the engine wanted to stall when i stopped at the traffic light, i did put too much mind to that and went along my way.
The next it did it while driving around 55-60 miles per hours in the highway. The next day same thing again but this time at a lower speed 50-55, followed by 45-50 and so on. Now
the stalling is felt more and at about 25-30 miles per hour. The diagnostic produced code U0284 which a faulty air shutter, i found the cause of that which was a broken wire but the car still wants to turn off when i drive it about 25-30 miles per hour. Can this be caused by the gas i put in or it might be something bigger than that? Thanks for your time

Likely fuel was low quality or had water in it. I get that a lot around here.

You probably got junk in your fuel system from all the crap that collects in bottom of fuel tanks over time like water, debris etc. You likely need to swap the fuel filter (may be in the tank) and have the fuel lines cleaned out. Maybe the injectors too. Not a hard job, just tedious. Then you need to allow the engine run long enough to complete all the tests.

I would run through this tank and on my next fillup I would put in injector cleaner during your fillup.

As i know you never empty the tank completely will cause damage to the full pump when you are a 1/4 time to fill up
Broken wire on a 2021? do you have mice in your engine it will damage the electric wires they bits of them i have a 2020 Outback i'm retired i'm always fill the thank when it's half so I don't see the big bill on the gas station LOL , and I add a Liqui Moly Jectron Fuel Injection Cleaner in the tank that improve the fuel economy (it clean the injectors from the carbon) I do 28 to 29 miles per gallon I had 21 to 22 M/P/G
if you have a fuel pump issue that cost big from the dealer I hate the dealer good luck from Oregon Corvallis.

Very interesting. I'll looked inside my tanks before and they're spotless. Filters too. Never use additives and our fuel often has water in it. I also never fill up until nearly bone dry. No point in keeping any old fuel around with quality so low these days.
