Towing with an Outback (2013)

I am not with the car and don't have the manual. I need to know how well the 2013 Subaru Outback AWD does with towing (like a U-Haul trailer). How much weight is safe to tow. I need to move a family member from Indiana to Washington State. We are trying to decide which plan is best: Rent a U-Haul truck and tow the Subaru OR Rent a U-haul trailer and drive the Subaru towing the trailer? We have less than 2000 lbs of household stuff to move.

The towing capacity (Max.) for the 2013 Outback is 2,700 lbs.

Tong weight should be no more than 300 lbs.
